An internet domain or domain name is a unique address where people can find your website. Domains replace complex numerical codes (IP addresses) of servers where all websites are “physically” stored.

Each domain is made up of 2–3 levels:

• The First-level domain (TLD – Top-Level Domain), also called an “extension”, determines the cost of domain registration. The most common TLD is .COM, for example.
• The Second-level domain is the actual name of your website.
• The Third-level domain is used as a subdomain in case you want to subdivide your website further (for example, to separate the e-shop into its own site eshop.mywebsite.com).

You can check the domain owner directly on our website. Our WHOIS lookup works not only for .COM domains, but also for all other extensions.

Most country-specific domains (.SK, .CZ,  .EU etc.) become active immediately after registration and payment. However, some require additional domain verification (to confirm contact details).

For most generic domains (.COM, .ORG, .INFO, .NET), verification is done via a confirmation link sent to your e-mail. This must be completed within 14 days of registration or the domain will be deactivated. Some domains (e.g. .BG) require a special form or an ID/passport number.

Most domain extensions have a grace period after expiration, during which you can still renew your domain. Typically, it lasts 30-45 days. To avoid any risk, we recommend using our Domain protection service.

Domains can be traded just like any other valuable asset. Many great available domains are often bought by domain brokers, who then resell them in auctions. You can purchase these domains for tens, hundreds or even thousands of euros – depending on their popularity.

Only the authorised payer/administrator of the domain can change the owner directly from their customer account (admin panel), and the current owner must approve the change. For some domain extensions, the change is handled directly by the central registry. For other TLDs, there are specific forms to be filled out.
